Winter months are pretty good down in the canaries with good sunshine particulary on the southern islands, as they are nearer the equater the daylight is a lot more than in the U.K, Tenerife south resorts and Gran canaria best for sunshine, The north islands can have periods of over-cast days but you would be unlucky to have a week without sun. Temperatures normally low 70's during day and not below mid 50's at night, You might need a jacket or jumper on an evening when out and about for breezes but indoors its fine no heating needed. We go every year in winter to the canaries and its amazing that summer is only 4 hours away and boy do you appreciate the light even on the shortest day the sun is up before 8am and dosen't set till after 6pm. Once in tenerife in december we had a wind from africa and the temperature rocketed into the 80's.

Quite agree with everyone on the Canaries. I absolutely hate the cold weather over here and so we visit Tenerife several times during the autum/winter to get a bit of warmth and we have never been disappointed (we even have our own place there now).
  • I went to Barbados last December and that was the best winter break i have ever had.

Try and avoid christmas and new year weeks as we payed 4 times as much as normal.

We stayed at the Sandy lane, but i would not recommend it unless you have loads of cash to get rid of.

I hear Turtle Beach is good and thats just around the corner.

Canaries, Cyprus, Tunisia - all have similar weather, nice and warm but not usually hot. Dubai is hotter as is Egypt. Otherwise it's long haul. Florida would be a good bet for the children, probably the best for reasonable weather and lots to do at an affordable price. What age are the children?
