depends on the games & and how demanding they are.

whether you want to spend a moderate amount of money and have a machine able to come with 'somewhat demanding' games today.
whether you want to start spending more money and having your machine able to cope with very demanding games for now and some time to come.

Finally will depend if you're technically competent to build a machine from components yourself. (at the very top end this can make a machine over £1000 cheaper).

the good news is i believe the machine you are on now will have no trouble with either 'minesweeper' or 'solitaire' :p

What's your budget? What resolution is your monitor? Are you looking to upgrade by buying components or to purchase an off-the-shelf machine?

What games are you wanting to play? That will tell you what you need. The size of your monitor is also an issue.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I think a lot of the questions being asked are irrelevant. OP needs to look at the Games cover which specifies the spec of the computer needed. Else the forum can advise on a worst case scenario but will need to know the current spec of OP computer.

Give a few game names and we can help spec, most of the questions you were asked were actually relevant and we can't help you much without a bit more input......

As has been said before it depends on the game. Undemanding games (e.g. The Sims 3) should be playable on the system as it is. Crysis, for example, won't be playable. The main weakness is the graphics (assuming it is using the motherboards built in graphics controller which is an Intel GMA3100). If you wanted to make it more suitable for gaming you would need to fit a graphics card.
  • I've just built a gaming pc. It plays sims 3 at top speed and spore. If you're interested I can post the spec. It's also very upgradable, goes up to 16gb ram.

It's cost me just under £300, but that excludes operating system, dvd drive and hard drive as I had those already.
