When Rik has given the all clear, you also need to do some updating - Vista SP2 and IE8, plus any new updates.

I don't really want anything that is going to make the Laptop run slower.
    (like IE8)
    What's VISTA SP2?:)

Vista SP2 = Vista Service Pack 2. Liable to contain performance updates for Vista, as well as security and bug fixes.

IE8 - I'd have said it was faster than IE7, but have you considered using Firefox? Faster than IE8, and even securer.

Download, install and update Spybot Search & Destroy (link). I've found recently, this finds things Malwarebytes doesn't.

When installing Spybot, it will ask you if you want to Use System settings protection (TeaTimer) - choose NO.

After installating and updaing Spybot, run Spybot, update it again, choose all selectable updates then immunise (on the left hand side).

I'm not convinced that the problem is with your PC , I see that you had a torrent downloader and it could be that Sky are throttling your speeds if you are a big downloader

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/sky-broadband-sorry-for-psn-problems

Traffic management, Sky went on to say, only applies to Sky Broadband Connect users using peer-to-peer applications; torrents, in other words.

have you tried the basic things like changing out your ADSL splitters ( small boxes that go on all sockets ) and plugging the Sky router straight into the main test socket
