Sickness Benefit Advice Needed

Hi all, I'm back again (I only seem to come on here when the wolves are at the door!)

I have been claiming JSA from September '09. I began feeling unwell the next month but only went to the doctor about it in late November. During this time I missed one signing on session which was covered by sickness. I have continued to sign on since this date, my last SOD was 27 November (also covering 25 December). It was only on 18 December I was diagnosed with a massive (and I mean massive) ovarian cyst which has been ruining my quality of life (very swollen abdomen, hard swollen legs, mobility issues, breathless etc.) and I am still undergoing tests to see the exact extent of it. I know I will definitely need an operation and so will not be actively seeking work.

My doctor has signed me off from 23 November until the end of January initially and I just wanted some advice on what I should be claiming. I'm also on anti depressants at the minute so i'm trying not to stress out too much.

Thanks for any advice you can give. :)

You would need to claim ESA. Were you on IB or CB JSA?

It's Income Based. I haven't let them know yet as I was waiting for my CT scan results to find out the extent of the cyst.

Give them a call on Monday and tell them you need to change your claim to IB ESA. They should be able to do the paperwork over the phone, then you can post or take your med certs in.

You need to claim ESA, if you are entitled to the income based element of JSA, then you should receive ESA at least for the assessment stage.

You need to do this quickly.
