Malwarebytes is the best free scanner for malware I know of ~ download it from FILE HIPPO
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
    (needs to be MANUALLY run)

I recommend AVAST or AVIRA anti virus (I use Avira, but it doesnt have an email scanner)

FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin for browsing (Or use SANDBOXIE for all browsing)

SPYBOT to IMMUNISE and scan with periodically

****YOU MUST REMOVE YOUR MAIN ANTIVIRUS FIRST BEFORE INSTALLING AVAST/AVIRA**** (May well need to run a 'removal tool' too depending on what you have now)

If you wish us to see what you DO have we could probably advice more ~
    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

try malwarebytes instead. adaware is tat. avast and avira are also rubbish, even tho avira supposedly has good results, it has some issues though, just check out wilders security forum. suggest you invest some money in kaspersky or nod32.

If I didnt want to spend any money on security what would you suggest then?

  • I have used Avg, ad-aware-,spybot but ditched them because of to many false positives and updating and scanning problems

I now use Avast, SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes and ccleaner .

Microsoft security essentials have been receiving good reviews from users
Everyone will have there own ideas
