Hi there,
I am new to UK, living in London I am exploring City Center to start with. Someone mentioned about 50p offers with Megabus, I would love to go somewhere, but have no idea what destination to choose. Can someone give me an idea. I heard Porthsmouth is nice.
Thank you

You can't go anywhere for 50p with Megabus.
Minimum fare is £1.00 (one way) plus a booking fee of 50p.
So your cheapest trip from London and back will be £2.50.
Have a look at their website.0 -
I travelled with megatrain in December from preston to edinburgh return for £10. Absolute bargain!!!0

We went to Cardiff from London with Megabus. It is a nice compact city with a castle and old fashioned indoor market, plus modern shopping centre. We stayed at the Travelodge at Cardiff Bay ( Cardiff Atlantic Wharf it is called). The bus drops you by the Cardiff Hilton Hotel (you also get it back from there). You can get a no 6 baycar blue bus from by there to the Travelodge. It is beside the Red Dragon Centre which has nice places to eat and you can walk trhough this to Cardiff Bay, which also has nice restaurants, plus you can go on a boat ride on the Bay. There is also an old ship with a cafe and a Norwegian Church. The Millineum Centre in Cardiff Bay also has West End type shows and events on.
The Travelodge has a £9 per night, per room sale for dates May to September starting at 6am this coming Thursday. Mega bus dates go up until the end of May, so I would look and see if you can book sale rooms to tie in with megabus cheap fares. Eg if you could book Thurs 20 May to Sun 23 May you would pay £2 return plus 50p booking fee with Megabus.0 -

Was it available when I posted? I don't know.
Sorry to have posted what now appears to be wrong information.0 -
I only discovered this offer a few minutes before posting it. So in normal circumstances you would be right to inform the OP that minimum fares are £1.00 (one way) plus a booking fee of 50p.
You're not given the wrong information as it would be the case if it were not for this special offer.
I'm assuming that these tickets will be available on a first come first served basis.0 -

Hi all,
Thank you for your postings. Does anyone have any suggestions what to see in Portsmouth? Also is better to take a train or a bus to this destination?
Thanks again.

Train would be quicker and more comfortable in my opinion. Also depends how much you're willing to spend.
There's no Mega Buses to Portsmouth by the way only Mega Trains.
Got this information from the Mega Buses website:
Discover Old Portsmouth
Take a walk from the station into Old Portsmouth, through its cobbled streets and narrow lanes, a wealth of history unfolds. See where convicts and heroes left England for the last time. Discover fortifications ordered by Henry VIII and enjoy the pubs of Spice island, where once press gangs lined up new recruits.
Charles Dickens Birthplace
Visit Charles Dickens birthplace in the centre of Old Portsmouth. A museum marks the site of the great Victorian literary figure, acting as a shire from Dickens fans from all over the world.
St Thomas’ and St John’s Cathedrals
Portsmouth is home to two impressive Cathedrals, one of which - St Thomas’ Cathedral - dates back to 1180 and has strong historical presence, having been witness to murders, excommunications and civil war.

Things to do at Portsmouth Harbour
Shop till you drop
Gunwharf Quays, specialty outlet shopping centre, is located a short walk from the station. Along with many cafes, restaurants and bars along the waterfront, Gunwharf Quays is a picturesque location for a great day out.

Enjoy the seaside views
Elegant, sculptural and awe-inspiring, the Spinnaker Tower is set to become a new national icon. Located on the Harbours edge, the tower soars 170 metres into the sky above the historic harbour of Portsmouth, gateway to the English Channel.

Command your own warship!
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is just a short walk from the station. The Dockyard hosts three of the world’s greatest historic ships spanning four centuries.

For cheap fares try Greyhound, Megatrain or Southern Trains.
There are £3 each way Advance Single tickets available with Southern Trains from Victoria.
Megatrain will be fastest followed by the others at around two hours.
p.s. don't forget National Express coaches.0
