Toilet flush advice

My turn now.
There is a toilet which has a pushbutton flush on the top. it leaks into the bowl after a flush, it does not fill up again it just leaks straight into the bowl.
when you take the lid off it's ok and starts to fill up. leak stops. OH says that the toilet lid (or push button) is obstructing the arm from returning up and presumably it has to return up fully before it cuts off the water going into the bowl.
Ok this is all second hand information, I am unable to see this for myself hence I am unfamiliar with this type of toilet (push button) and thought I'd ask you guys. If you have had similar experience or can give me a guess, then fire away.

....now...how can I describe this
Assuming I am thinking of the same push button and syphon as the one you have....
The push button has 1 or 2 rods attached to the push button depending if its a one or two flush cistern. The rods seat into the middle of the top of the syphon device.
Sometimes when refitting the lid, the rods become seated on the lip of the bit it has to push and not in the centre.
Therefore it pushes open the syphon a little and never lets it close.
Lift the lid off and try to align the rods in the centre when placing the lid back down.

The problem is with these type's of syphons there are so many different types with all the forgien imports, as Rob says there are usualy 2 rods they might need triming down.
But not always, and trying to get replacement parts, you will not have a cat in hells chance( except Armitage shanks) so it is a new syphon every time the sealing washer leaks/letsby.
If you are on a meter beware they are not leaking as your water bill will shoot up.0 -
I'll tag on to this thread if thats OK. We've got a new build house and all the loos have dual flush push buttons. 2 of the 3 loos drip, initally I though it was the overflow but it isn't as they still drip when filling up.
Starting to worry as it's wasting a lot of water and we're on a meter.
Tried to get the cistern lid off like our old single push button, but the lid wont budge (thought it was just a case of lifting them off), it's anchored in the middle.
Any suggestions for a fix and getting the lid off, we weren't left any instructions by the developer?:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0 -
