Timex Ironman watch battery replacement problem

Options
Hi all,

I have just had a battery replaced in my Timex ironman Gps watch and when the chap put the battery in it now makes a noise (like an alarm) - the screen is blank, and when the noise starts (the watch works) and I need to press the button to stop the noise but then the screen goes blank. Apparently it needs to be reset, but I dont know how. Any ideas pls? The noise comes on after 10 seconds and it is driving me nuts!!!

Are you sure that the chap who fitted the new battery wasn't just saying that it needs to be reset to get rid of you?

You don't say what model, but picking one at random such as the 5F011 and looking at the manual shows no need for a "reset" after changing the battery. In fact it does not describe any method to reset the watch.

Is it possible that when the battery was changed, it was not kept face-down all the time the back was off? If so, electrical spring contacts may have dropped out that would then stop it from working properly.

If you paid for it in a shop - take it back and get them to sort it.

A reset after changing the battery will need the back taking off again and I'm guessing you paid out originally so you didn't have to do this? Also, if they've managed to do something more serious than just forgetting to reset, will be your problem once you start taking it to bits.

I've replaced batteries in my Casio ProTrek (not that difficult with a bit of patience), but wouldn't have taken it apart to fix if I'd paid for the batteries to be replaced.

Remember to take the reciept with you - I'm sure they will try and wriggle out of any expensive repairs that may need to be done.

Only other thing I found was

Q: My watch display has gone blank, but the Indiglo works and the watch still beeps. What's wrong?
A: The watch may have sustained a zap from static electricity. Reset the watch by simultaneously pressing and holding for about 3 seconds the MODE, START/SPLIT, and INDIGLO buttons. If that does not reset the watch and restore the display, remove and reinsert (or replace) the battery. Make sure that the + side of the battery is facing up, and that the cover over the battery is reinstalled correctly. Also, make sure that the clamp holding the battery is properly secured. Finally, confirm that the case back is re-seated in the correct orientation

thx, i tried the button reset and it doesnt work i watched teh chap open the watch again, took the battery out and put it back in, i think the watch wouldnt work if the battery was inserted the wrong way round? i think he put the cover back on properly cos there is a little spring that has 2 touch the top and he showed me that, also looked like the clamp was closed properly... we tried to find a AC thing - any idea anyone if/where it is on this watch? i saw it on a different times, but not on that one?>/??

    thanks
