Changing a large window to patio doors

Hi there,

I am looking for a bit of advice regarding altering a large back window into french/patio doors. Has anyone had this done and can share any experiences good or bad?

I would ideally get a contractor to do the job, remove the bricks below the window and supply & fit a new UPVC double doors. Does anyone know of a firm in the North West area or have a clue how much something like this would cost? I am fair handy at DIY so could perhaps do a lot of the prep work myself to keep costs down
