I struggle because my son has is an H fitting, they have sod all choice of shoes and it's really annoying, I wanted some slippers for him, but do they do H fitting? do they hell! apparently kids with wide feet don't need slippers or wellies or anything other than bog standard shoes! rant over lol0

This brought back memories of trying to get shoes for my two DS had short wide feet and DD had long slim feet, if they had one pair each that fit in any shop it was a miracle. In fact my SIL and I were discussing the issue the other day as my niece same age as DD had and still has small but wide feet and she was saying she still has problems getting shoes to fit her. I would stick out for soes that fit properly, gaping shoes are rarely comfortable to wear.0

if you get her feet measured at clarks, try looking for some shoes on ebay, there are sellers that sell brand new shoes but in last years styles, that's what I've had to do for my little boy, bit cheaper as well x0

I would encourage the OP to take the shoes back, speak to a manager and get a refund.
My son was always a D/E fitting and we were lucky enough to have StartRite factory shop in our town. He always wore start rite until he was about 15 (they do seem to suit a narrower foot) and they NEVER sold a pair of ill fitting shoes but I did have an occasion to take a pair of his shoes back as they rubbed and he got blisters. They never questioned replacing them it was a grovelling apology and refitted for a different style. They also used to keep record cards for all shoes sold to children so they could check their growth patterns etc. Its worth looking at their website because there is loads of information regarding their feet and fitting.
Unfortunately for my daughter the Startrite shop closed down and she has to have Clarks but we havent had a fitting problem there either but I would say something if I thought they werent right.
Just gone back to their website and you can order online by photographing your childs foot and uploading to their site.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
sorry to jump in on this thread, i have read it with interest, my daughter, now 12 has always had narrow feet, having shoes made to help with medical problems until the age of 7 was a bonus, we have struggled with her shoes since, in November she was measured a 6 c in clarks, three shops selling start right and clarks refused to sell me ill fitting shoes, but were happy for her to walk out with her old shoes, a size too small!!
i cannot find anywhere that sells hush puppies, we had these last winter and were a good fit.
She is now in adult sizes and i cannot find ANYTHING to fit, in desperation i bought some ladies hush puppies boots on ebay, school insist on shoes, she will start back on tuesday with a note detailing my problems in finding shoes. She still has 2 insoles in her boots to make them fit as they are women's.
I will read with interest how everyone gets onOwner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0 -

I'm astounded by all the problems people are having getting well fitted shoes for themselves and/or their children! You seriously have to wonder what on earth is going on out there. Personally, I think long gone are the days when a shop will refuse to sell you a pair of ill fitting shoes (happened with my older boys, now 18 & 20), as the pursuit of a sale seems to be the main goal.....
I'm off to Winchester on Wednesday as they have Russell & Bromley, and also a Jones the Bootmaker which is listed as a Hush Puppy stockist.
Still need to get trainers for her too yet :eek::rotfl:0 -

Give Startrite a go, they start at a C width and do more styles in a D width then Clarks.
I've walked into and straight back out of Brantano - I can fit shoes better myself I'm sure..............
We've had a mix of Clarks and Startrite, depending on the suitability of the style.0 -

I'm with you regarding Brantano. Truly shocking the 'fitters' at my local branch. Not properly trained. They had my daughter trying on shoes a size too big, because they didn't do 1/2 sizes. The poor thing looked like she was trying clowns shoes on, especially with her narrow feet. They wouldn't have it that she should be trying on a smaller size. I will never shop at Brantanos again, because of this.
The fitters at my local Clarks are lovely, and always make sure that the shoe fits. Same with the start-rite factory outlet.0
