I'm figuring that you are extremely young as I thought the money saving video was given to school aged kids 15/16 or something like that. At the risk of inflaming, don't take on board everything that Martin says, you are investing in your future, whilst I don't recommend for a minute that you rack up credit card bills, if you truly want to follow your vocation then you have to invest in it.

I'm sorry but I am actually trying to help you! You seem to know absolutely nothing about student funding and show little interest in learning!

You do not take out a student loan from a bank but from the SLC at a rate that matches the rate of inflation. You pay nothing back until you earn £15,000 and then only a small percentage of this. If you don't pay it back after a certain time it is wiped out. They are not credit scored and don't affect your future credit situation.

If you want to quote Martin, you might quote the right bit as he recommends taking out all available student loans (NOT bank loans and credit cards!) whether you need them or not.

There are some small pots of money around from charitable trusts and so on but these are mainly for people in hardship, particularly the disabled, lone parents and careleavers. They are not for people trying to avoid taking out the normal student funding loans and any application you were to make would be ruled out automatically if you hadn't already taken out this funding.

You may also not realise that many people who post on here work in the field of student advice and, therefore, know what they're talking about!

ARB, a student loan is there to help you! It's as Oldernotwiser said and you pay it automatically. It doesn't affect credit rating unless you default on purpose or defraud them (which is near impossible to do as repayments are taken from pay) This is MADE for students, and it's not only a loan, but a grant and possibly a bursary dependant on parental earnings. Please do not discount it as there's pretty much f-all else available funding-wise.
    ** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **
    ** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
    **SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

If you really don't want to take out the student loan (though I have one), you can just apply for the maintenance grant.

I suggest you research this further. Student debt isn't ordinary debt, like others said, its there to help you further yourself and improve your future

Ignore the guy. This is the best advice he will get, because there are no other grants out there for this sap.

If people don't want to listen, then I don't think we should be offering any sort of help/acknowledgement to existance.
