Want to invest £10k for daughter

I want to start a pension for my daughter, currently aged 17, with a lump sum of £10k.

My intention is that it goes into something and stays there for, say, 40 years, hopefully providing her with the basis of a pension to which she can contribute further over the years.

Trouble is I have no idea how to go about it (I don't trust any of the financial "advisers" who have lost me a lot of money over time) or who to contact.

Can anyone give some informal advice of how to proceed or which companies might offer the most suitable deal ? And what to watch out for interms of risk and charges !
