it might seem pricey but I have found it works wonders on my blemishes and spots.. Elemis - you can get from debenhams but also QVC where you can buy trial sizes and if not suitable for you can return within 30 days... worth a try... I have suffered with spots since 12 (now 31) although I dont have acne over the recent years my skin has been better but since elemis i have been really satisifed with the results and wil perservere to rid of my blemishes.
Best wishes0 -
Hiya i know what your going through, i suffered spots from age 19 until i got pregnant at 28 then they vanished and i only get minor spots now.
I used dianette which worked but had to come off due to really bad leg pains and thats when i started on antibiotics which i was on for years...really bad for you and just make the problem worse in the end.
I did the same as you avoided going out, eye contact etc...
Found this site though and looks ok, it has a regime to follow which lot of sufferers say work and its not a dead expensive one, using high street brands...worth a try maybe...if you are anything like i was i'd try anything once to clear it...horrible affliction

Good luck...hope you find your solution xxx0 -
Roaccutane can cause sever liver problems - I'd consider it an absolute last resort - if at all. I had antibiotics years ago and they worked well and since they are fairly bland ones they're relatively safe to use long term.
You may laugh at this but I eventually found out that my acne (at age nearly 30) was caused by orange juice. I drank it everyday and thought the vitamin C must be good for me. It was only when I was on holiday and couldn't get any decent orange juice that I stopped for a couple of weeks and my skin got dramatically better. When I got home I went back to OJ, not having made a connection, and my acne came back. It wasn't until I went back to the same "no orange juice" place that I considered the link. It strange but true. After a couple of years of no OJ at all I became more tolerant of it but still if I have too much it's back to teenage skin.0 -
I've had acne since my early teens (now 31) - I was prescribed roaccutane when I was about 15 - was referred by doc to the consultant dermatologist at the hospital - it costs loads per treatment and is very strong with side effects so they tried everything else first. It gave me really dry flakey skin which was almost as unattractive as the acne but it cleared it up - not great if you're planning on starting a family though.
I found the contraceptive pill Dianette worked too when my skin got bad again in my twenties but I've stopped taking that since docs aren't keen to prescribe it.
Now I use the oil cleansing method (it works!) and use cover-up. I find Givenchy's Actimine (wake-up skin make-up base) is good for calming my skin first thing.
Please don't put off your wedding. Try out different make-ups by asking all the expensive counters in department stores to do you a make-over - they'll use the right products for your skin and you can decide which ones work and you like best. You'll look beautiful! Good luck and take care, Lucy0 -
I had bad skin for years, I would say mild/moderate acne but it was constant from the age of about 12 and I'm 41 now until I discovered Freederm Gel a couple of years ago, I cant tell you how it changed my life, I know my skin pretty well so ignored the instructions and used it morning and night within a couple of weeks I had 80% clear skin and its totally clear now:TI only use the gel once every other day now if I remember or if I do get the odd spot directly on to that and its gone within 24 hours, for me a true miracle cure, I use the OCM but am having a bit of a hard time diet wise atm so skin is not great but still not spotty, no matter what I use I will always have a tube of Freederm, you can get it in Boots in 2 sizes for either £5 or £10 - best of luck:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

I've had nightmare skin for quite a while and have only recently got it under control. I've tried almost everything available for problem skin, like TCA peels, laser treatment and most products either prescribed or over the counter. I realised recently that where I might be going wrong was by overdoing it with chemicals. I was really fighting hard using all sorts of harsh chemicals which resulted in me having rather dry skin but still getting spots! I decided to go back to basics and now I only use products in the Liz Earle range to cleanse, tone and moisturise with. Then I do a glycolic peel once a week to help with my scarring and (now) minor breakouts. So far it's going really well so I can only recommend
there's a really good store on eBay who sell a lot of products for acne prone skin, plus the woman who runs it is really commited to helping you get good skin, so if you're interested in the details then feel free to PM me.
I totally understand how you feel with regards to being insecure when you have bad breakouts. I used to get really painful spots too and I'd look in the mirror, but no matter how 'good' I was looking, all I could see were my spots. It's really difficult to handle, but hopefully all the posts on here have given you some new ideas, so good luck and please let us know how you get on! :beer:Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.0 -
You poor thing, I know how miserable this can be.
The dietary thing clearly works for some people - not quite the same thing I know but alcohol makes my skin much worse, when I give it up my skin is much better. Good luck, and book that wedding!Up Jacob's Creek without a paddle!0 -
I know the feeling about having problem skin. I think I have tried every 'cure' under the sun!! I tried the OCM and I love it. I started it maybe a week ago (using only jojoba oil as I couldn't get castor oil) and my skin is looking great. My spots are almost gone and any that came up due to changing products were minimal. Got castor oil now so will mix this for a once a week 'deep cleanse'.
I also use Avon's dermabrasion scrub - way cheaper than getting microdermabrasion done.
And I take oil of evening primroe oil capsules.

I'm really liking the clinique anti blemish solutions 3-step range. I know a lot of people say clinique is too harsh - and I agree to some extent. I used the 3 step for oily skin a long time ago and didn't really get on with it. However, the anti blemish range is really mild, not drying, and I can see results. I ran out a while back and started using something else. Quickly went back to clinique and was so happy with the results.0
