If you are helping your child using a phonic based approach please take a look at the information on jolly learning. It is important that children learn the phonic sounds carefully to start with otherwise it is difficult for them to blend the sounds together when reading unknown/longer words.

MP3 files of the sounds as the child should learn them http://www.jollylearning.co.uk/ click on information and then audio.

If you click information it gives you the option to download a copy of their guide to teaching phonics.

The above is most useful if your child is being taught using the jolly phonics method if they are using sounds and letters then the bbc has online activities but the basic sounds of both are the same.
