I would have thought this warranty was between you and the place you purchased it from, CPW? It is up to them to negotiate with Dell, surely?
Either way your laptop WILL be guaranteed for 1 year. Its a legal requirement. Its just a question of whether you take it up with Dell or CPW.
There's actually no legal requirement to provide any warranty.
As for CPW, you'd need to go back during the week and get them to contact Dell (Dell don't work weekends!). Though given the problems, it would be much easier to contact Dell yourself...never thought I'd say that
I don't think rejecting the laptop would be possible at this late stage, sorry.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

having read through these
can someone please confirm CPW claim that to return within 28days for a refund is a load of bulls:mad::mad:t
bearing in mind they have
a) refused my request for a refund under the sale of goods act, stating there stance above
b) told me to deal with dell direct, again the SOGA states it is a CPW problem
this laptop is clearly not fit for the purpose it was intended for, with issues that could possibly lead to further serious problems as well as none working keyboard keys
I am in the process of writing to the CEO @ carphone warehouse as his staff are clearly not upto speed with the law0 -
Its irrelevant when you set it up that was your choice. CPW are within their rights to offer a repair they could also offer a replacement or cash back but that is up to them at this point.
I'm afraid you're wrong. If when you buy the goods and check them they don't conform to contract you have the right to reject them and request a refund (this has to be within a 'reasonable' period of time). Once you've accepted the goods the retailer has the right to choose the remedy to the problem.
Oh and bignred05 the CPW are talking bull - but to enforce your rights you'd have to take them to court...0 -
Yes, for a repair. The OP is on about a refund on the goods.Skintslimmer wrote: »Can't believe nobody has replied mentioning the compulsory 1 year warranty that exists on all electrical goods?

Would you class it as fair if you sold a customer an item, and then they opened it 9 months later, after using it for 2 days and demanded a full refund? They are now down the costs incurred and have an out-of-date laptop....Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
That's because we and the OP are already aware of the warranty, which is with the manufacturer not CPW btw. This isn't the issue in question here, it's about CPW trying to shrug off their legal obligations.Skintslimmer wrote: »Can't believe nobody has replied mentioning the compulsory 1 year warranty that exists on all electrical goods?0 -
update
after sending off an email in the small hours on Monday morning, to the CEO at CPW, I received a call tonight (just goes to show what you can do by going direct to the top man)
looks like I'm getting a replacement laptop from CarPhoneWarehouse
I have been offered an Acer, at least I think it was an Acer, it may well of been an Asus
however I declined this, as I thought it was an inferior brand, I requested either a DEll/Toshiba or a "leading brand"
any thoughts would be appricated
the laptop has to be similar to
Intel Pentium Dual Core
2 GB Memory
250 GB Hard Drive
17" screen
Battery life 260 mins
with Windows 7
bearing in mind I had the Dell Inspiron 1750
anyone recommening something "decent" similar from CPW (it has to be from CPW)
any advice appreciated
Thanks0 -
Brand makes pretty much no difference at all, but Asus are probably "better" than Dell or Toshiba.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0
