House sold! Should we rent until we find our dream home?

This is interesting as we've currently exchanged on our sale without exchanging on our purchase and our solicitor thought we were mad, saying 'you'll be homeless'!! However, I think that in some circumstances it could be a good thing to do - as many have said, you'll be in a stronger position as a buyer, perhaps you can try out a slightly different part of your area - without committing to living there forever?
But, if you've never lived in rented accomodation, you might want to make sure you can afford somewhere you'll like - not all rental places are up to the standard of 'home'. Maybe research the rental market in your area and find out the cost of places you'd be happy to live for 6 months or so, are there plenty available? Often rental properties are smaller, or designed for house shares - though this depends on the area. Don't forget for budgeting that if you're renting, you don't tend to pay water rates or maintenance charges as these are often covered by the landlord.0 -
your ideal home could be out there-why not start looking seriously.I would not give up our security, our bricks and mortar until i had my next dream home firmly in my sights and signed on the dotted line. Also i would think it would be worthwhile visiting some of the main estate agents and telling them you are in a prime position to buy-people like you are sought after by estate agents.0
