I've just bought my first laptop from argos clearance, an acer 5542 refurbished and so far I'm absolutely delighted with it. However, as I've only used desktops and a mouse before I'm finding the touchpad difficult to get used to. Is this something adjust to with time or do people usually get a wireless mouse to use instead?

My teenage boys have no problem with touchpads. I find them too sensitive. I have a corded mouse and DH has cordless (runs through batteries fast so use rechargeable).

Touch pads are too slow even worse on wide screens, wireless mouse is the way to go0

My wife has a dell mini and found the touchpad difficult to use. A wired mini mouse from Tesco works very well and cost less than £5."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Touch-pads - the functionality of - differ markedly across laptops (much like keyboards); you might find an 'applet' within your control panel that allows you to select the sensitivity rate and detection rate of the touch-pad. That same applet often allows you to turn off the touch-pad in case it conflicts with an external mouse. Personally, I always prefer to use an external mouse due to any risk of RSI.
HTH.

I had a pc with a mouse for a long time but when I got a laptop I gradually got used to using the touchpad and now find it strange to use a mouse. If you can get used to the touchpad, I think its easier as you don't need any extra space for putting a mouse. You can change the touchpad settings to make it as responsive as you like too. I'd say keep trying with the touchpad.0

Thanks for all the advice. I'll persist for another few days but think I'll treat myself to a wireless mouse just in case.0

I wish i could have my laptops touchpad on my main computer, because with all the nice multitouch stuff I get on it, i'm used to swiping 3 fingers back and forth to navigate web pages, 2 finger scrolling.. using a mouse is sooo last decade...
