Go find an empty and unswept car park and sling your car around it until you get used to how it handles in the snow/ice. If one end of it does decide to go on holiday without you during normal driving, at least you'll have some idea/practice on how to get it back."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

You have to use your gearbox much more. Try avoid having it change round corners, especially down.

They were black, knee high boots from Clarks with a small wedge heel. Not high at all but enough to give a longer look leg-very comfy. In the sale *sigh* only 1 pair in my size (7) and they were down to about £60 I think?Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0

torque
Turning force.
Hold a bag of sugar close to your shoulder. Your body applies a turning force to your shoulder to stop it rotating downwards and the sugar dropping. Now extend your arm to the full length. Your body has to apply much more turning force to keep the sugar (and your arm) up.
Bigger engines (usually) have more torque than smaller ones. Lower gears have more torque than higher ones. If you apply too much torque to the wheels, the grip breaks and they just spin uselessly.
That's why in a manual car, if you can't pull away in first, then try second gear, then third and so on."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Just slap anything down. You can delete it later. Deleting is so much more quicker than writing"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

The hire car really groans going up between second and third and when you slow down you really feel it 'drop' back to second. I think going on some ice the other day and even though I was doing about 5mph and braked reaaaaaaally slowly there was a horrible grinding noise and I just slowly kept going forwards. I wondered what the car in front was doing - I thought it was just about to stall and then I realised it was ice. Luckily it had gone round the corner before I slid forward.
