Somali pirates london property boom

Many are talking about Somali pirates helping the property boom in Kenya, well I know there are loads of Somalis in London.
All this ransom money is bound to have helped keep house price propped up.

Paying a ransom needs to be made a criminal offense punishable with a long prison sentence.0

I'm serious. The reason piracy continues escalate is because of the a**eholes who pay up, making it a profitable endeavour. The only proper response to piracy is a harsh military response that leaves just enough alive, horribly maimed, to crawl back to their hole in the dirt and show their friends what a bad idea it was.0 -
Buying houses in London?! I'm obviously in the wrong profession!
Piracy will continue in my humble opinion because there are lousy, lazy, good-for-nothing people in this world who want everything NOW for FREE.
Personally if I was within the military who guard the waters where these pirates operate I'd practice a harsher shoot-to-kill/destroy their boats policy whereby others did not copy this get-rich-quick-scheme.
Only my humble opinion.___________________________________________

I beg to differ. These sort of tactics may not work with against people with ideological motivations, but they would certainly work against pirates, who do what they do for exclusively profit-driven motives. We simply need to make the costs of choosing piracy higher than the benefits.0 -
The timing of this article is interesting.
What with somalia being just across the water from yemen.

Beg away. Here is some maths:
Ship £££££££££
+
Cargo £££££££££££££££££££££££££££
+
Military Operation £££££
= £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
or
Ransom £
+
Small missile fired from a remote location ££
= £££
Next..... Or havent you realised they are being killed after leaving the ships with their money recently.. Hence the escalation....Not Again0 -

What exactly is your point? Mine is that if you reward the pirates they will continue. It naturally follows that I would not be opposed to the handing over money as a temporary diversionary tactic prior to killing the f**kers, so it's difficult to fathom why exactly you are trying to contradict me with that. I have not seen much evidence of that occuring, however. Dead people that didn't get away with the money don't cause property booms.
And what do you mean by "hence the escalation"? Why would pirates escalate their action in response to being harshly punished? It's not a war with two sides, its pirates vs any vulnerable ship of any nationality they think will get them a good ransom, so there is no logical revenge motive. Logic dictates that when the profit diminishes and the dangers become severe, it is no longer worth being a pirate.0
