I like my porridge made with water. Don't like it made with milk, then I sprinkle cinnamon on it :-) Yummy. No sugar, haven't got a sweet tooth :-)
You look like you're doing really well Mark. Well done. It's interesting reading what meals you're doing. I find budgeting subjects interesting. and enjoy reading what other people do :-)

Have you got a sandwich maker? I'm not into tuna, but, amazingly, tuna and cheese sandwiches made in a sandwich maker - those kinds which seal the edges so get the filling nice and hot, are delicious.Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)

Thanks phizzimum
And JillD we have just replaced our broken breadmaker using our xmas argos vouchers, so definitely up for some cheap pizza with veggies on top. is there a special recipe for BM pizza dough?
(PS Not sure that the BM< is cheaper as we seem to be eating 2 loaves a day now - its always on!!) - whats the cheapest way to do the yeast 10p a sachet is not much (with Value flour) but add up)
My BM manual has a recipe for pizza dough, let me know if you want me to type it out for you. It should work in any machine with a dough setting as it ust mixes it and leaves to rise then you have to knead, shape, leave and bake yourself. In our house we do all agree it makes the best pizza in the world. And we always make double which makes 6 8-inch pizzas, 3 of which we have for tea and 3 we roll out, separate and freeze. Then can be cooked from frozen - very handy for dinner in a hurry.
(Or can freeze dough in a big lump bu then have to defrost before use obv)Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)

Anyone done porridge with milk in the slow cooker? I've done it with water but its not as nice. I never have time to do porridge on a morning so found the slow cooker recipe great.
I do it in the microwave. Just put a small amount of oats in a bowl.
Add milk, i personally add about 2/3rds milk plus 1/3 water otherwise it can be a bit rich.
Takes about 5 min start to finish. The more I live, the more I learn.

morning Mark and all who are following your challenge
I'm sorry if this has been posted before, I haven't had chance to read back yet, but having just placed my first approved foods order, I've come up with quite a few evening meals below the 20p a head bracket. Nut roast 9p a packet and flavoured couscous for 6p a packet were two of the helpful basics to make this possible. Have a lookie at their website maybe? Approved foods.
HTH and good luck with your challenge

This is a great thread, loads of good ideas. We are very overdrawn - typical January, so I'll be reading with interest. Does anyone have a recipe for home made chicken nuggets??? As you can see I'm no Delia:hello:

hm CHICKEN NUGGETS are easy as pie ( easier even!)
You need
chicken breast
oil
egg
flour
breadcrumbs.
Make breadcrumbs by whizzing few slices of stale bread in a blender
cut chicken to nugget shapes
first roll the chicken pieces in flour
then dip them all in beaten egg
then roll in the breadcrumbs
heat oil in shallow fry pan
drop the chicken nuggets in ( couple at a time) you want the oil the same depth as the nugget
Depending on how long you fry for, based on how big the nuggets are, the bigger, the longer obviously. Cut open, it the first one is whie throughout- thats right. Ours are about 4 mins. We then put them on a grill tray on a low oven to let some of the oil drip out.
We also do Breast burgers like this ( so much nicer than packet) and goujons etc. Turkey steaks are also good for this. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
