ask them to review the call you made. if the nice man did tell you just to pay the minimum then they will find it very difficult to keep the charges. even if they do, you were advised by an official of the bank who gave you wrong information so escalate it.

if it is exactly as you describe, then they should be able to put you back on the promotional plan.

but, keep it polite, dont be aggressive.
2023 wins - zilch, nada, big fat duck. quack quack,
  • lol not that it really matters, but I was 1 day late with my payment.
I realise that a snotty letter will only get me a snotty reply, I work in customer service and I know that the rude customers will always get the worst service.
I guess I am angry at myself more than anything, I've been on top of this for so long, I just can't believe I dropped the ball for 24 hours and it's cost me so much.

Def, I wrote down the guys name, the date and time of the call. He advised me that if I paid the minimum amount all would be fine and the previous rates would be back.
I worked the numbers out as best as I could, it's so complicated!, and could see that paying the minimum would leave me overlimit, so I paid over an extra £100. That extra £100 brought me £30 under my credit limit, so had I followed his advice, and I re-iterated more than once what it was I wanted to know ie how much do I need to pay to stay under my limit, I would have been overlimit again.
  • halifax always seem to create some GREAT promotion.

but when you actually look at the fine print, you soon realise that its WORSE than all other banks!!

its amazing how they can make such a bad promotion look great!!
its not till youre locked-in for a year that you can see how bad it is!!

    take this for example:

extra high interest rate if you deposit a certain amount each month.

but then you realise that after a year, the total amount = less than you wold have got in other banks!!!

and their bank charges are higher than most other banks.

I left them and reclaimed my charges, and I got back about 90% of everything.

they even tried cheating me at the final moment by closing my account so I couldnt access my reclaimed money!!

    cheats!

You clearly don't understand how regular saver accounts and AERs work. Did you really expect them to be paying you interest on money before you'd even paid it in to the account? Did you really expect a full year's interest on your 12th deposit, paid a month before maturity?

Perhaps you should read this MSE article.

To quote a paragraph within the article:
Sadly regular saver accounts often receive negative publicity due to a flawed understanding. Many people say they've used regular savers, but only received around half the interest they thought they would... yet that's because they expected the wrong amount, not because they were underpaid.
  • I would advise being polite but firm and emphasise the points about being a loyal customer with a previously excellent credit history etc.
If you think the cc companies can be misleading in the advice they give you should try talking to the tax credits office! They tell you something different every time you ring!!:rotfl:
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

  • It's clearly a great way to run a business. You have a customer who runs their account very well for years, and never have a problem. However, being human, people make the occasional mistake, and what is the response? Well they come down on this long term customer hard, upping her interest rates and putting her under serious, unplanned for financial strain.
It's not that they (the banks) are being careful, it's what they want, because they only want the least, tiny little excuse to hit you with charges and huge interest rates so they can make more profit, and in return more bonuses for themselves.

People like Loopy Girl spend their entire lives on here telling people they are wrong and the banks are right, as if anyone here actually believes them! I mean what kind of person spends so much time on an Internet forum that they can rack up over 2700 posts telling people they are wrong?! What a sad individual.

So the lesson is if you make one tiny mistake, banks are just waiting to hike your rates and sting you with charges, and the pond life apologists will be here ready to jump in and make you feel worse if possible.

Dump your bank if they treat you like this. There's plenty of alternatives.

    D.
    Doh!
  • I've written a polite, concise letter, and am posting it today. Fingers crossed, it will reach someone with a heart lol
I'll let you know how I get on guys, thanks for your support.
