Are you using Wireless Zero Configuration in order to connect or the wireless USB adaptor software? Which OS are you using? Which Service Pack?
Thanks, I'll try that. Is this because I'm letting the USB software control the wireless connection? I have been double clicking on an icon for the wireless USB to see if there's anything I could do and also a windows wireless icon. Argh, I wish I could post links, but basically if you google 'windows wireless icon', I've been double clicking on that and looking there aswell, but can't figure out what is wrong.gaming_guy wrote: »do you have a security passphase that you have to enter to connect to the network?
if yes, then make sure you enter it exactly as seen (eg. the code is CaSe SeNsItIvE, enter it like that then you should be able to connect)
Do you mean a WPA? Yes, I have one. I entered that in. It seems to be all in capitals, I think I entered it all in capitals...hmm, I'm doubting myself now :think:DatabaseError wrote: »you possibly need to set a static IP on the desktop, this is very easy, but it does involve knowing both the router make + model (IP range) and the operating system
It's a Thomson TG585v7 wireless router from Plusnet. The operating system is Windows XP. I don't know how to find out what service pack it is. I bought this desktop from a friend, so don't have any paperwork or original information with it.
Thanks

In most instances it's best to let Windows manage your wireless functionality - the Belkin client software in particular is pretty awful IME.
Have a look here also.
Right, I'm trying this now.
Thanks

For Vista, this is a nice link with pictures (from same thread as in my above post - from board guide Browntoa).

It sounds to me the WPA code maybe put in wrong which is giving the problem.0

Hi
I just tried to do this. There was no tick box like that...no option to let me choose to have Windows configure my wireless settings.

How do I change it?
Thanks

You might have to enable the actual service. See here.Hi

Also, you might have to disable your wireless client software if it's taking precedence over WZC.
It's still not apparent whether it's this or the WPA code (as suggested by another poster) which is the problem for lack of connectivity.0 -
May be a silly question, but if it is a desktop, why do you want to connect wirelessly. Is the router not close enough to connect with a cable?Hi
I've just been setting up a Dell desktop doesn't have wireless on it, so I purchased a wireless dongle from play.com.
Thanks

Because the phone point is in a different room and we don't want to be falling over wires in the hallway.
