  • hsvc im very sorry to hear of your wife's death. I would like to point out that if you make a claim for means tested benefits and the DM decides you deprive yourself of capital, do spend the time going down the appeal route. I know for Housing and Council Tax Benefit purposes (not sure about Income support) If you have made your situation clear the onus is on the Local Authority to prove you have deprived yourself of capital... if you can provide as much proof as possible - it will be hard for the DM to prove you deprived yourself.. this fact usually results in appeals being successful at tribunal stage. Its always worth giving it a go, try and get as much as you can because thats the purpose of the benefits system. :)
All hail to the sale!!!!!!

this must be awful for you losing your wife and for your children . im sure that you must of had to pay funeral expenses so im sure 5 thousand would of been easily spent on this and then you would of only had less than 16 thousand in your account im sure they would accept that you have needed money to live on etc since the death of your wife
  • This will depend on the age of his children.

Thanks for pointing this out, ONW. I neglected to mention in my posting for IS on the basis of being a lone parent, is dependent on the age of the youngest child.

For info, at the moment the youngest child should be aged 10 or under. This will drop to the age of 7 in October.
