Does anyone know of a free program that will convert movies in .AVI format to allow me to burn them to DVD so I can watch them on a home DVD player?

Just make sure that when burning or saving it open Movie Maker, Tools, Options, Advanced Tab and select PAL not NTSC and change to 16.9 if you wish for widescreen ot not.
