After some advice... I'm handy with spanners and screwdrivers when it comes to cars, but the soundcard on my pc has died and want to take one out of my broken laptop and put it into my pc. If that can be done...?

No because the one in the laptop is built into the mainboard.
Get yersen onto Ebay and buy a Creative Soundblaster Audigy. They're around £10 and cracking sound. Windows Update should put the drivers in automatically or you can download them from Creative.0
