windows vista licensing terms

I have 3 PCs at home, and a legal copy of vista, am I ok to use vista on all 3 license wise? Its just that I have activated it on one PC and now need to on another.

If it's a "normal" copy of vista, then no. It's always been once copy/licence per machine with Windows, it's just that its only recently been enforced since Windows XP's release.

If you have a family pack (can't remember if they did those for vista actually) or you have MSDN or something else then that changes things but then I'd suspect you'd know you had something special because you'd have paid a special price for it.

I'm pretty sure the family pack was only introduced for Windows 7, so the OP's licence will be for one PC.

I suspect you're right too. I know they made a lot of noise about what a great idea it would internally be for both the XP and Vista releases but if they didn't actually get around to putting the idea into action until Win 7 then I wouldn't be surprised... Idiots in Microsoft marketing couldn't find their behinds with the help of GPS co-ordinates, a flashlight a map and sherpa guides. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with those idiots any more.

One licence per computer unless Family Pack, one of the limited run of Student ones or a MSDN etc licence.

And to top it all off, the family pack is a "while supplies last" deal, which seems to be another way of saying, "if it's really popular, we'll stop doing it".

Apple have been offering family packs at very reasonable prices for years now, and I was hoping Microsoft were going to catch up with them. Unfortunately, they've still got a way to go.

I hope it's the other way around: "We've 'printed' a few off to see how it goes, and we'll do a new run if they prove to be viable" isn't unreasonable to a company trying something new to them. But knowing Microsoft you're probably right, we'll see.

I hope so too. I paid $25 to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6, and there's no way I'm paying $215 to upgrade two PCs to Windows 7.

For such an ubiquitous product, Windows certainly has premium pricing.
