You can ask BT to switch you to Whole Bill Direct Debit, and then you only pay what you owe them ,with no guesstimates of possible use.

That's how my monthly bills were for years, ten I noticed this doubling in bill and it was because thgey are switching from paying in arrears to paying in advance, (nice way of slipping in an extra monthly bill) I have called them to cancel my account as no notice was served of the changes either I have reminded them of changing the T&C as the changes are to my material disadvantage , I rarely use the fixed line anyways :o

I really don't understand that, I have been paying the GPO and, now, BT, line rental in advance and calls in arrears for the past 4 decades.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Honestly , I looked at my bills I paid my November bill in December , paid the September bill in October etc, the CS Mgr called me to inform that I was being transferred onto the 'new' billing system , thankfully after much discussion and his chat with the legal team, we have the matter resolved and I will still pay 12 month bills over the last 12 months and my January bill will not be increased
