New PC how do I get old stuff onto new one???

Hi, I have just replaced my ancient (6yr old) 70gb pc with a much larger 500gb machine.

How do I physically get all my pictures and songs etc from the old pc to the new one?

i also have an external 500gb hard drive. if that helps.

thanks

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Plug the external hardrive into the old computer
HIGHLIGHT all the pics and songs you want etc (Not all at once, just whatever you can highlight in bulk)
    RIGHT click and COPY
then goto MY COMPUTER and open the hardrive and RIGHT CLICK and PASTE
Youve now made a copy of whatever was highlighted
Repeat for all the rest you want
    Unplug the hardrive
    Plug into the new computer
If you really want to you can then copy and paste onto your new hardrive (Though theres really no need as you can use the ones on the external anyways)
What I WOULD suggest is backing up important pics etc to disc so if anything ever did go wrong you have backups

If you want to transfer everything - documents, music and also things that are more hidden away like e-mails, program settings and bookmarks then you could use Windows Easy Transfer.

You can use your external drive. The exact way to do it will depend on what operating systems. If you have Windows 7 on your new one, and XP on the old one you can simply run Easy Transfer on your new computer (type "Easy Transfer" into the start menu search box) and follow the on screen instructions.

I'm not sure if this method is possible for XP to XP though and I haven't tried it. This here suggests its only for migrating to Vista or Windows 7.

EDIT this guide might help if you did need to transfer files from XP to XP - http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_fstw.asp
