Redundancy and signing on

I have had notice of redundancy at the end of March 2010. As I've been in local government since 1994 and my employer seems to have a good policy I get a five figure redundancy payment.
I need to know what impact this will have on my ability to sign on in April and what I am required to tell the Benefits Agency. If I can get some benefits there is a possibility of being able to survive until September and then doing a one year course to change career.
Thanks for any help / pointers you can give me.

Assuming you have paid enough National insurance contributions (NICs) you should be entitled to CBJSA for 6 months after this due to your capital you will not be entitled to IBJSA.
Also you will not be entitled to CTB nor LHA/HB.0 -
