Hi as the above says I'm looking for a job in school hours and also term time, I was thinking a preschool or nursery but I don't know if they allow term times.

Any ideas ? Thanks

I work as a play worker in the afterschool club at my childrens primary school. My children are allowed to stay with me at no cost. I work 3.20pm till 5.20pm and its term time only. I started this job with no qualifications although am doing the NVQ and have done paediatric first aid. I also stand in as a teaching assistant when needed.

I know someone who works in an office dealing with benefits payments that does term time only.

Many call centres and shops do term time only contracts.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I have one friend who works term time only in a bank and another who works term time only doing admin in a council department.

Be aware that some nurseries operate 52 weeks per year, not usually nursery schools though. However there may be odd days when they would want you to work, eg INSET days, and these don't always coincide with the term dates for your own children, so you may still need some childcare yourself.

State run nurseries will usually operate during term time only whereas private nurseries will be open all year.

I used to work for the Welsh Assembly Government & they offered a system for parents whereby they were able to take the school holidays off work - their pay was just averaged out for the year. Not sure if this is offered by all local councils but if so perhaps you could get an admin job which allowed you this sort of flexibility?

Can you list some please as my friend is looking for a TT job and if she had an idea of companies, then she could get her CV out to them. :)

Doesn't that really depend on where she lives?

Anyway, it would surely be easier for your friend just to send out her CV to any local companies (after all, it only means wasting a few stamps), rather than expect somebody else to research exactly which ones offer term time contracts.

Well the way dmg generalised it, it was like she had a list to hand....no one is asking her to do any research, if she can't give the names off the top of her head then so be it.

But to make such a statement as 'many call centres and shops', one would assume that she would know of a certain few as oppose to just stabbing in the dark.

Surely in these times, any advice would be a help to someone. I have already asked in my work but there are no vacancies at present

Randomly sending out your CV is like clutching at straws. Any help with specific companies would be very helpful.

The jobcentre themselves once told me they do term-time contracts, but they are hard to get as they are in demand and often snapped up by existing staff members.

A lot of companies do apparently offer these contracts in principle, ie. Barclays Bank, HSBC, Sainsburys etc but how many are available is questionable.
