Surely if someone is on DLA they must be disabled in some way (either physically or mentally) so they should qualify for a pass. I have become very interested in the way disabled people are treated.

That would depend entirely why they're on DLA in the first place, surely? Being on DLA (apart from HRM) doesn't entitled someone to a bus pass. The only reason I got mine was because I would be refused a driving licence. (although I have now been told I can drive - I know for a fact this is wrong)
I know, Shel, but they're not obliged to provide free tram and train travel where non-disabled people don't have it.

But it helps us disabled people get out & about. I certainly wouldn't be able to go out walking everywhere.

sh1305, yes, I know it does. That's why I'm saying they go above and beyond the legal requirements for us. I wouldn't be able to walk everywhere either. I don't qualify under any category but HRM, but I use a cane and am so severely hypermobile I dislocate things on a weekly basis, and when it happens to be a hip that goes out, I fall over...

Good luck with that. I'm sure she will be able to get it if she gets HRM.

just had a reply from them,it will depend on her illness not just the fact that she gets dla hrm, which was what i was told 2 years ago when we applied and was rejected.

This is one of the things that bugs me. It is all too vague, making it easier for them to refuse an application.

Woodbine, that is shocking, what makes your wife different from other people who can hardly walk?

I get mine for blackouts and being barred from driving on health grounds, i think your wife has more mobility issues than me.

    Hi,

A good Document to hit Councils/PTE's with is the ''GUIDANCE TO LOCAL AUTHORITIES ON ASSESSING ELIGIBILITY OF DISABLED PEOPLE IN ENGLAND FOR CONCESSIONARY BUS TRAVEL'' (sorry about the caps - I cut and pasted the title from the document).

a link to the document is here:

    http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/regional/buses/concessionary/informationlocalauthorities/guidancedisabled/ancetolocalauthoritieson3561.pdf

In Metropolitan areas this applies to PTE's a well as councils in non metropolitan areas.

Albeit it is 'guidance' they are expected to follow this. The 'Assessing Eligibility' paras are at Para 17 onwards. It may be worth printing out the relevant Paras etc and sending it into them and asking why they are failing to follow DFT guidance. If no joy, get your MP on the case.

    Tally

In Scotland its free bus travel in Scotland anytime. alongside somebody else with you for free, should you get that part.
Alongside this is 80pence a return by train whithin 10 miles inc somebody with you. Outside the 10 miles its half price for myself and somebody with me.

    This is gfetting silly now:
I moved in September to London and registered partially sighted with them. Doing so, automatically entitles me a freedom pass.

I still don't have this pass. Their excuse? You're not registered as aprtially sighted. Except I am - I have the letter and the card that states this fact. And they've given me travel vouchers which I have to be registered for.

I've emailed them (their office is now shut) to ask what's going on. They told me in Decembr it'll only be a few days. I'll phone in the mornign to find out what's going on. This is costing me money and putting my health at risk.
