lol....its a start anyway - i shall keep looking over next few days lol...there are loads but that is the one which seems reasonable in price! and it looks pretty...go to MIL2bs party but go to that venue on the way! Just pop and have a look - go in and ask for a brochure...it means you catch them when they arent expecting you so you can gauge how it feels without them sucking up lol ;)
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

  • Hmmm - it does look lovely BUT "exculsively yours".....that "exclusive" word is usually the word that means £££££££ lol...but got to "contact us" and just pop them a message saying "please could i have a hardcopy wedding brochure and also a 2010/2011 price list?" :j Seriously - they WILL have a brochure...i havent come across many venues that dont have brochures! They just dont say they have them lol!

Steph - you could try The Monastery in Manchester - its a fab venue and I don't think that it is too pricey (it used to be a monastery but now its a proper venue for all sorts of activities).

I know it sounds mad but try looking at council properties too - for instance in Birmingham people can hire out the banqueting suite in the council house for £1200 plus VAT and you get the hire of the council house and the museum thrown in, food is extra but again not that pricey. So try looking in your local area for something similar.

I guess it depends on your budget really £4K in the scheme of things isnt too much if you are getting the venue to yourself for the whole day - I know of a venue close to me that hires itself out for £4K and catering on top but it is finished to 5* standard but its a sole use site - no sharing with anybody else.

    Bigmomma your venue looks gorgeous.

The venues I'm looking at aren't even that special I don't think, maybe it's just me.

This is the one that was £4700 http://www.sandholefarm.co.uk/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1
there is no price list on their website but there is on here http://www.wedding-venues.co.uk/article.asp?id=1751

Might be worth just popping along to the wedding fayre there on Sunday too. You can get loads of ideas from wedding fayres and it helps get you in the wedding spirit!! :D (says I who now just goes along to them to be green with envy but they have given me ideas too!)

I know you chose a date for your wedding but would you consider changing it and having a weekday wedding to cut costs? Ones on/near to bank holidays are always a great money saver!

Definitely do as bigmomma suggests and sends off from brochures. I do remember it being a little disheartening when you discover the prices (although 4-5k for just the venue and no food or drink package seems excessive) but you will find the right venue for you. Haggling is always good and seen loads of people on here who have got the price down.

There is no harm in going to have a look round (even if the price is outside your budget) and seeing if they can accomodate you at all. I would try and stick to your budget though otherwise I can imagine that it could get out of hand.
Does your council supply a list of wedding venues so you can look through there to help?

You have loads of time Steph, dont be disheartened, you will find somewhere great for you. ;)

Some lovely places have been mentioned :) Places like Peckforton Castle really are top end though and therefore you'll pay a lot!

I used to live in Manchester/Cheshire so saw a load of places when I was getting getting married in 2002.

We got married and had our reception at Worlsey Court House which is a lovely black and white jacobean building. It doesn't have gardens but is right by the canal and a nice grassed area for photos - it was an absoloute bargain as its owned by the council!

Unfortunatly my marriage didn't work and I'm getting married again in Feb! I've moved down south now but we've found a gorgeous place to have our wedding and becuase we're getting married out of season we've got a great deal :) There's no way we could afford to get married here in the summer at full cost but their winter wedding package is fab :) So its worth considering an unpopular date if you want your dream venue and can't stretch the budget.

Just to add, there is always a deal to be done ;)

Our venue wanted to charge us £700 on room hire, on top of the £67.50pp, and plus £150 each night for two rooms two nights. With haggling I got the room hire free and the rooms down to £100pn, plus a half price buffet (from £12.50 pp) :D
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

Frannyann that's brilliant, I have emailed a few venues for a brochure and one has replied with that they don't do one (weird) But we can go and have a look it is really nice though http://www.thorntonmanor.co.uk/weddings/

So hopefully I'll go and see it at the weekend
