Hiya! Don't feel depressed!!! My venue www.dumbletonhall.co.uk is costing us ABOUT £4100 which is room hire, drinks package (basic tho), 3 course meal, evening buffet (only caters for about 70% of guests but apparently this is normal) - we also get the bridal suite, breakfast, canapes for drinks reception, chair covers and sashes in our chosen colour and a few other little bits thrown in. The price for the food and drink and room hire is pretty much what it woul normally cost, but we got the other stuff thown in cos we booked it when it was a late date offer...ie we booked it in Sept 09 and it is in Oct 2010
So i reckon £4000 for JUST the venue is pricey...but i am a cheapskate lol
I will say tho, it took me a couple of months of searching to find my venue..it is local and whenever i mention it to suppliers ect they all know about it and it seems THE place to have reception lol BUT it wasnt on any of the "wedding venue search sites".....so google different things (ie not JUST wedding venue) and u might find other stuff!Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Your not the only one who thought it was a bit pricey! I nearly dropped dead!
nothing wrong with being a cheapskate, I'd rather be one than spend un necessary money on something.
the search will continue

I think those prices for hire alone are ridiculous!
I got married in a very swish place - you know, every town's got a place where when you mention you're getting married there, EVERYONE goes WOW! - and the hire of the Great Hall was £1500. Which I thought was steep! But it was so worth it.
I'd keep looking around, love - there's bound to be a venue close to you that is The One.

Bigmomma your venue looks gorgeous.
The venues I'm looking at aren't even that special I don't think, maybe it's just me.

No - you need to find something that you and h2b love....it wont necessarily be what you had in mind....lol....my hubbys family ALWAYS have wedding "do's" in working mens clubs and little dingy old mens pub type places with Mums gone to Iceland food" (lol...no offence anyone PLEASE!) and thats NOT my thing at all.....i always wanted something a bit different and was looking at caves etc etc lol! Then we just decided to pop and see our venue just cos we had nothing to do lol.....at our venue you drive up a MASSIVE driveway, sweeping across the "estate" across cattlegrids etc etc and we were TOTALLY in love! It was not what either of us expected and most surprising was my h2b who LOVED it the most and said there and then (on the drive!!) before we went in that this was where he wanted to have our reception! Plus, cos we are getting married in our local little church then going there, we get to drive up there in our special wedding car! I shall totally feel like i am in Pride and Prejudice or something!!!!! See, you NEED that feeling, both of you! It wont necessarily be a massive estate etc....it might be a quaint, beautiful olde worlde pub, it may be in a Art Deco theatre which you could have a proper English afternoon tea in, it might be a football stadium etc etc....but it needs to be The One!
If you like, PM me the area you live (ie county, city etc) and i can help the search!!!! Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
I just totally love this http://www.peckfortoncastle.co.uk/ afraid of the price tag though.
I live in wigan my H2B lives in Manchester, so there is manchester, cheshire, lancashire for areas that we could get married in
Im even contemplating gretna green now with the price of some of the venues round here I could get married 4 times over in gretna green lol

Wow - that place looks great! But yeah, may well be a tad pricey lol! Send for the brochure though - i sent for brochures of everywhere because they sometimes put in their "special offer" sheets which is how we got our deal!!!!
So, is there no particular area then that it needs to be ie so many miles from one of the places you mentioned? For older relatives travelling etc etc?? Also, what realistically is your budget for venue, food and drink included? (scary though i know...but a ball park figure??)
Oh and how many people are you wanting ot have - guests wise? Just a ballpark again lol......?Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
No particular area really everyone drives or we'll put a coach on or something.
We was thinking roughly around 3-4 grand on a venue with food and drink. I can up it a bit as I've got savings
There would be roughly up to about 80 guests as we both have big families but we don't speak to most of them anyway so 80 would be max.
It's scary this wedding stuff I thought it would be great fun lmao!

It is rather scary! But you will get there! Best thing to do is send for ALL of the brochures! Thats what i did! I shall have a little hunt lol but you know the areas better - search by town name etc....ie "town name wedding" ....thats how you find the more obscure venues.....cos obviously all the bigger ones will come up when i search by large area iykwim! But i shall post some here in case i come across ones u havent seen by any chance! Plus you will probably find now people on here know the areas you are looking in, they may offer suggestions based on local knowledge which is the best EVER knowledge lol!Baldrick, does it have to be this way?
