Hi, some help please
My HP Pavillion computer ran (itself) a monthly (never seen it before in two years !), maintainence test, and the following errors came up. Seems something to do withGeneric USB Disk Device (Hard Drive)
Test name error code
Random seek test HD535-5W
Funnel seek test HD535 - 3W
Surface scan test HD535 - 2W
Surface scan test 2 HD535 - 2W
There were no suggestions of how to correct these errors. Are they serious/a problem, or should I just ignore - thanks

from the HP support forums sounds like the hard disk is on the way out
Mine has a SATA 250gb Seagate drive which i have cloned using the free seagate tools to another 250gb drive. In the eventuality that it fails I can just pop the cloned drive in

Do you have any usb drives attached, or slots for memory cards?!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
only thing 'attached' other than a printer, is a spare/2nd drive, which I use to back up on, though this is always (and when scan took place) turned off
Poota does take a long time ot fire up, there seems so much in start up, but it all 'seems' necessary0 -
I'd have thought your hard drive wouldn't be anything to do with USB, unless the SATA bus is on a built-in USB card.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

thanks - read it but dont u/stand the jargon/implications. I have unplugged the other drive (as it was turned off what difference should it have made anyway).
Do I have a problem (holly in hte post went to a lot of trouble correcting EXACTLY the same errors/list), but what are they now doing to my computer ?
Can I run this diagnostic/maintainence thing again ? (it just popped up - even though it said 'monthly')
Sorry to be numpty0 -
Press F2 during start-up to access the diagnostic tests
select the Hard drive tests
if that does not work then download and run the Belarc advisor I posted earlier , once we know which make hard disk then there is normally a manufacturer diagnostic toolEx forum ambassador
