do you have a food processor - you can produce pretty effective 'mince' for burgers, meatballs etc. if you have0

Fantastic answers thanks vv much everyone!
I am going to take Bronnie's suggestion.
cube it, brown it and cook it in a low oven for 3 hours with some onion and carrots and stock/gravy. Then if it's still no good, eat the veg and gravy and give the meat to the cat
Do post back later. Curious to know how it ended up!0 -
I also buy my meat (which I don't eat very often anyway) from an organic butcher. Occasionally if I don't have time as the butcher is not exactly round the corner, I buy the organic meat in Waitrose. Not very OS, but then again there's no shame in a good treat now and then. Their meat has always come up top for me.
Back on topic, I second the advice to use up the Tesco sirloin in a stew, and if you have a slow cooker that's the perfect thing.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
I must say I have never yet found a decent piece of meat from Mr Ts yet.I use my local Rare Breeds butcher or if I near it Sainsburys Their Angus steak is beautiful,a bit more expesive but well worth the money. But I always buy from the fresh meat counter, as I don't like the idea of meat that has been kept in plastic film on trays.I too would suggest using it up in a slow cooker with some wine and herbs to give it some taste and never buy again meat from Tesco's0

I marinade my steak in salt reduced soy sauce and sunflower oil. Keep on turning it. It never fails to be tender when griddled on a high heat and eaten medium rare.
Felines are my favourite

Make up a marinade of white wine, a little vinegar, some crushed garlic and olive oil. Pour them into a plastic bag and add the sirloin. Leave to marinade for a few days in the fridge. Lightly fry the steak or grill it depending on taste. Beef needs a little imagination sometimes and the above method would tenderise the steak nicely and give it a good bit of extra flavour.0

Another nice option would be to make something like the Delia beef stroganoff or goulash (from her original black book - sorry, I've just checked the website and can't find them).
I've had this problem a couple of times and slow cooking for ages has done the trick.
Good luck!0 -
I chop it up in a food processor and use it as a mince, it make far superior chillies and shepherds pies.
I have bought fillet from Mr T and it has been fine.
Steaks are always down to personal taste, I hate any fat and like steaks extra lean but the rest of the family don't mind it.
I also have found that they have to be cooked on a VERY hot pan for not too long.0 -

Got to agree - I have bought steak twice from Tesco - the first time it was green and stinky when I opened it, the second time it was tough dry and tasteless... lesson learnt, I will never waste my money on buying meat there again, or my time returning it...
We have a very good butcher, locally sourced produce, award winning pork pies etc.. fantastic beef - and he is actually often slightly cheaper than the supermarkets on some lines!0
