Hi everyone, good to see so many of you working so hard at the frugalities.
On the yeast front I get mine from Asda bakery, I usually get given about 4oz. I then freeze it in lumps of about 3/4 oz. When I come to use it I just drop it frozen into the warm water/sugar mix and it is disolved and working in a matter of minutes. I haven't had any problems yet.
Cheryl - I'm not supprised the supermarket don't advertise that they will give yeast away free - they sell it in the chillers near the yogurt here.
Total brain malfunction tonight and no meal planned so have eaten a jacket and cheese, OH had chilli on his - (I have tones of chilli in the freezer, made it by mistake when I had actually run out of bolognese:rotfl:)
Still have really full fridge and freezers so don't need any main meal stuff, and I think I'll try not to buy pack up goodes, will have a bake session at the weekend, at least it will help to warm up the kitchen.
Got an email last night to say my cheque for the old phone is in the post so should get that in a few days, that will be handy as OH lost a couple of days pay over Xmas - with him being a temp they just didn't have him in over the hols and he didn't have enough holiday pay built up to cover. Lucky I have all that food in:D0 -
Rozzeepozee I would but the cheapest slow cooker you can find to try it out as I personally don't like the taste of food cooked this way. I will admit I haven't used a modern one and its about 20 years since I used one. Mine had a seperate ceramic pot that the food went into and I found the food had a funny twang when cooked. Things may have improved since then but don't waste your money until you check it out.
oh, I thought it was just me, I love using my slow cooker use it lots, but always have to season it more once on my plate as there is a funny twang.
#great to know I am not the only one, people have made me think I was the funny one :rotfl:

I have just been told that my meeting on Monday, involving an 8 hour drive, has been cancelled. I am so relieved. I wonder if it is been preggers that is making me so cautious about driving and going out in the snow. I have never liked driving in it but I am a right scaredy cat at the mo.
Dunno about being preggers making you scaredy cat for drivingm I am coming up 54 in March so hopefully not preggers :eek::eek: and was terrified driving home tonight, so very pleased for you luv, no need to take those kind of chances in life.
take care luvvie

It looks a bit funny so fingers crossed! There are another 3 large portions left after the one I'm about to scoff so will have to squish them in the freezer somehow.
I do a sauce with yogurt for lasagne and it has an egg yolk in it which makes it thicker.0 -

I defrosted £4 worth of minced beef, around 800g I think it was. Anyway, I have been productive with it, while Daughter is here to lookafter DGD. I have made a Meatloaf, (should feed 4), 4 portions of bolognese, 6 beef and onion pies, 2 portions of Chilli, and 2 bases for individual cottage pies.
Wow!! Mooloo, how did you get so many meals out of that mince? Did you add veg and anything to bulk out? I live alone and wouldn't get that many portions out of mince.
I've been reading the thread everyday, really inspirational. It's making me think about everything I do so thank you everyone :T.
I've been frugalling here and there, but no budget set as yet....but still haven't turned the heating on today as my flat's not that cold really and the neighbour's heating keeps me warm
