  • Don't know how I did this, so cross with myself. I took a pork joint out the freezer yesterday morning & it's been on the side in the kitchen ever since so 24 hours. Is it still OK to cook or does it have to go in the bin? I'd normally bin it but thought I should ask just in case.

Go for the smell test BBmommy.

In my house ( did I mention no central heating  ) It wouldnt have even defrosted in 24 hours, a 4 pinter of milk takes a few days to defrost in our place.

Open it, smell it ( especially underneath where its rolled together) Id have thought it would be ok. Ive never heard of anyone getting FP from pork but then again im not an expert. :rotfl: but the smell test has kept me alive and kicking :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Hi Just a quick note for Frugal dom, I didnt know where to leave a note- here / on blog. Not sure.

I saw your wonderful tins and I funily enough was considering a similar thing with Some roses tins weve got left over from this Xmas.

What sort of paint did you use for the tins, is it just standard round the house gloss? I have some of that, but not a lot else, so Im hoping youll say yes!

    Good morning frugaleers,

Babyboysmommy, I wouldn't bin the roast, if it smells fine then I'd get it cooked ASAP and make sure it is well cooked right through. It takes stuff at least 24 hours to thaw here, sometimes much longer if it's a larger chicken.

Rictus, get yourself up off the ground and get straight back onto that frugal horse. Gambling is the losers side of the game, seeing the race through to the end fully on board is what the Frugal Stakes is all about, no matter what dirty tactics are used to try and bring you down.

top_drawer, you'll need to remove the link to your eBay item or the board guides could remove your post. You're in control of your spending, we all make mistakes and we learn from them. :) Hope your weekend improves for you.

pink_numbers, glad you enjoyed seeing blog, DS and DD think I'm mad putting it online and can't understand why anyone would want to see the pictures. But then my family grew up thinking it normal to have goats and all sorts of other livestock in the garden. :D

Homemade yoghurt has turned out to be a success! I had some with a swirl of mango coulis this morning and it tasted lovely. :D

Those were tins done by Sophiesmum, but she posted all the instructions on ther blogsite, which is listed in the links page of mine. :)

BBmommy - I'd go with lynz's reasoning, even with a bit of heating on first thing in the morning and in the evening things take ages to defrost in my kitchen (ditto with the milk, can take up to 36 hours) and when the heating is off the temp is very similar to a fridge.

Lynz - I'd go with the ordinary gloss rather than buy special (I've been thinking of doing the same to my tins). It should be no problem if you give it plenty of time to dry thoroughly.

Today I need to actually get something done cos I have been on hols from work this last week and have very little to show for it. Not looking forward to going back to work - love my job but could have done picking a week when the weather was a bit more inspiring.

oooh madwd ya believe it, found out why dads been on diet of puree for last 3 days, hes thin enough as it is and weight dropping off due to not eating any way, little nurse looked at notice above dads bed, which was from the last patient and applied it to my dad, who has been through hell and back, while they put thickners in his water, took away his fruit cordial and thickened his tea and coffee and liqidised his meals. while I am hopping mad, dont want to complain as he is still in their care. hugs to every one. Rictus dont throw yer money on a rust bucket been there done that, you will be quids in when you get rid of it, do it now before mot costs you 100s.

Has it defrosted right through to the middle? If it smelled ok all over I'd cook it and just cook thoroughly as usual. .

    Morning Frunchkins!

I'll be posting my monthly figures later today but just wanted to say thanks to Frugaldom for posting pictures of the new chickadees on your blog :T Mr Fresian was playing shooting games on the PC last night with his headphones on and took them out because he heard me squeaking at the cuteness :rotfl:

Although I didn't grow up on a farm etc, my uncle is a crofter so I grew up around that sort of lifestyle and get very nostalgic for it (Although not so much for birthing lambs....) so it was lovely to see your pictures.

  • Sorry, still haven't had time to catch up properly with all the post :o, hopefully this afternoon after work.

Anyway, thought I post my Feb figures. Despite being on holiday on a different budget for a week I still managed to spend a total £377 which is £27 over budget (still good compared to the last years though ). The cause is bad planning in the grocery department before and after the hols i.e. having a take away or popping in the corner shop especially since I was mental at work and home late every night. Plus going snowboarding twice (at least £25 per day) didn't help but was great fun :D. Also the leccy came to £50 despite being a week away, I guess because it was bl**dy freezing this month.

Gonna get the surveyor in soon, as cracks appeared in our walls . The tennement is ancient but I guess the weather and the downstair neighbours now having self shutting (slamming I should say) fire doors doens't help. You can feel the house vibrating everytime one shuts. Called their landlord and hopefully he'll adjust them. It's not just damaging but also annoying at night.

Anyway off to do some work, will pop back in later
