it doesn't cope with split rates. I've input mine as the lower rate (ie. what I'd pay per unit if I paid a standing charge)
the additional on the first so many units actually adds up to the same as the normal standing charge if I use all those units - which I always do for the electricity, but don't for the gas for a fair chunk of the year (hence making it worthwhile my being on this type of tariff)Cheryl0 -
Good afternoon frugalers,
Just got text from friend confirming our local Ald! has the fruit bush offer on from today, so a bargain to be had if you're interested in homegrowing. Going to try and get into town after lunch and see what I can get for the garden to expand on my fruit growing project, that way I can top up on fresh fruit, veg & dairy.
Back later to catch up, hope all is well with everyone.
Update - got a lift into town, stocked up on fruit, veg, milk & other essentials for the month and bought 4 lots of the packs of 3 fruit bushes.Total spend, including fruit bushes and a few 'luxury items' (prawns, kitchen roll, sweets, chocolate and whole nutmeg) amounted to £47.30, so should see me through to the end of this month.
Happy about the fruit bushes. Even if they take a years to establish. Got 3 blackcurrant, 1 redcurrant, 2 gooseberry, 4 raspberry & 2 Tayberry to add to my fruit collection here. Didn't bother with any blackberries as I can have freely foraged ones from along the drive. Off to update my spreadsheets now.
Should also mention that after checking all the chicken prices for best deal, as DS eats loads of it on his silly bodybuilding diet, I noticed that Sainsbugs' frozen XL chickens are priced at £4.79, so these work out at only £1.77 per kilo. Assuming half that is carcase, it works out at about £3.50 per kilo meat plus the carcase makes a huge pot of soup and usuually renders up enough extra meat to make a pie, curry or stir fry. Will thaw one out and experiment at the weekend to see how many meals I can get out of it.
And better still - managed to sweep another £300 into my ISA, so well on track for filling the 2009/10 account. :jI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Things going to plan here. Finding that life takes a lot more planning when you are trying to keep costs down etc. It really is a whole lifestyle change but I'm really enjoying it, most of the time anyway

Pleased to report another NSD - finally have new window in (just), have escalated complaint with housing, now requesting compensation. Flippin eck - 8 months to do a repair that's supposed to be done within 2 weeks. if they'd done the original repair in the first place, I wouldn't have needed a new window ! Worra palaver
(but I am a lot warmer, and can take one of my 3 layers of clothing off) :rotfl:
Thriftlass - dunno who you bank with, but when I sorted new ISA out last week it was painless - in fact a lot less hassle than I expected. Hope yours goes the same way
Happy mrsh - bet you are a happy mrsh- congrats to hubby, really pleased - love to hear when somethings good has happend :j
Nyk - fruit trees sound great, here's wishing for much future produce for you.
Have no idea what's for tea, all the messing about with joiner changing fitting times all day has me good and flummoxed. will have root round the freezer methinks.
Have a lovely evening folks - can feel a glass of wine coming on (or something stronger)When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on
