Well the trip to the recycling facility was cancelled as they had adverse weather conditions forcast for Walsall (your neck of the woods edaniels - sorry to hear about your MIL - hope you get things sorted without too much added stress)
So that ment I hadn't packed up as they were roviding lunch. So an unecessary £2.50 added to the food spreadsheet. I was really cross as I have so much stuff in stock at home.
No other spends today so things are not too bad. So off to make frajitas for tea cos I fancy something a bit spicy.0 -
I do have a flour mill about 100yds away, they use local grain crops but only sell by the lorry load a tad too much for me I thinks.rozeepozee wrote: »Much to the amusement of me and all the other ladies in the changing room, my son sat in one of the lockers (he's only 3 and fits perfectly) and ate his lunch in there which left me able to get dressed and my hair dried in peace!
Ahhh! The simple things...
edaniels, really sorry to hear about your MiL , and thanks to Shaz for the info.

Sounds like space food!!
My soup was lovely and very quick to prepare so i will be drying more veggies as and when i can was a bit disappointed with some of the fruit(bananas) but the fruit rolls worked well but a bit sour but i think that was because of the fruits i used i should have added sugar. Tinned pineapple was lush but might work out expensive at the rate my lot devoured it! hopefully use fresh when in season , i was getting three pineapples for a £1 last year at the market
Debating what to grow this year as time is in short supply i think i will have to stick to easy to grow , very productive veg that needs little attention its a big step back in the garden for me but i have to be realistic about by health and time restrictions .
Better get this tart started
shaz
HI Shazm what veg would fit into your category ie little attention as I am looking to do something like that myself this year in pots probably and dont' have a clue where to start other than tomatoes, I have always had a lot of success with them

Well I finally spent some money. £2.34 in Tesco, although it was a bit more, but I had £5.50 worth of tesco vouchers in my purse. (I know could get better deals, but didnt have much cash). Bought 3 loaves of wholemeal bread, reduced to 49p each, and bought 2 x 4 pints of milk and 3 cartons of long life milk.
and 5 banana's. 16p each in Tesco?? But it was cheaper then the packets that were £1.45, and had only 96p's worth of banana in it.
Had a stirfry, using up the last of the chicken from the other day, so its lasted 3 days, and the bones are now simmering away with an onion and a couple of carrots and bay leaves. Ready for soup.
Feeling quite pleased with the way the meals are going at the moment. But not costed out this one. (The chicken was £3) Has served 10 portions for us. Not counting the soup. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Evening all frugallers
Have had a realisation that my job will definatley be helping me along. We do ( in part) clearance of buildings and house clearancey type stuff ( thats about 5% of the job) we have an eye on the costs of clearance and staff are encouraged to salvage anything possible from landfill, as obviously it reduces company costs!
NYK -thanks so much for the cold frame suggestion! I come across so many knackered pieces of furniture in my line of work- I would have never considered using the drawers shell as a cold frame :T thanks! Also thanks to poster who replied re the potatoes in bins, going to try to pass by B&Q or wilkies tomorrow to get some seed potatoes. There is a pile of bins at a property in the "need to go into landfill" corner I will rescue.
Edaniels- sorry to hear about your mil x
Chamichelle- def consider online specs, OH got his for 7.50 and they are great for the money. He does mainkly use contact lenses but these are for when he cant be bothered and wants to "save" the lenses. ( ekeing out a box) Lasted a year - bargain!
Frugal things that have happened today:
*drove in the works van into the office, saving the transport cost
*have secured some shelving and a new office chair as the other shelving collapsed and these are metal so will be really flexible. they are also light, easy to clean, would be good ina greenhouse etc. Will collect on Friday
*have saved from landfill one 10kg box of finish DW powder so this should again save us a few bob
I did buy lunch today - but have decided instead of allowing myself one bought lunch a week - it will be once every 2 weeks. So far Ive already saved this year somewhere in the region of 60 quid by taking own lunch.
About to put through the approved food order as there are loads of cupasoups and thats wht I need to get through this winter. I know they are not particularly OS, but at this price, I couldnt make anything cheaper if I tried.
Making a chicken & mushroom pie with the left over chicken tonight, and will stick a loaf in the BM as well.
Did feel rather thirsty while out today, but bought chewing gum instead of a soft drink- longer lasting and 20p cheaper. Also found a further 50p piece in yet another bag.
Taka you have inspired me to try to find NHS dentist, my private dentist is trying to charge me somewhere in the region of 850 for one tooth, I also need 2x small fillings and possibly a new crown as well. I am trying to arrange BUPA cover through work as well as this gives most of the costs back. But its not the point is it, it reallyis just so much more expensive.
every little helps as they say :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Shaz What was it that disappointed you about the bananas ? They do not come out like the health shop ones as they are fried. They are more like banana toffees. I love them
i love the bananas too, maybe you over did them or sliced them a little too thinly Shaz0
