ok without going into the full long story
my husband has left, and with it he took the car
(yes he payed for it etc,iv spoke to the police and he has the right to take it)
firstly he DOESNT need the car he works approx 5 mins from where he stays.
I on the other hand,NEED a car/the car desperately to get my 3 children to school
i was without the car last week, and it was a nightmare
buses cost more than i remember
i ended up spending well over £25 in just a couple of days
being a single parent out of work i just cant afford that sort of money
my girl gos to secondary school which is a couple of miles away
but my boys go to a primary which is the oposite and in another town.
and busing 4/5 dif routes is just stupid.

i have spoken to my daughters school and asked if they could help arrange some kind of transport for her as her schools further from where i live and they said they couldnt
Putting her on public transport by herself is a definate NO NO.
shes not the best behaved girl youll see!
shes 11.and my boys are 5 and 7
i just thought of maybe hiring a car for this coming week
but havent a clue where to start.
oh god any ideas, advice.offers of free old cars lol all greatfully received

It seems a difficult situation without a magic quick fix.
I was thinking what I would do....

Perhaps there is another parent at one or both of the schools who passes by your house. Maybe you could offer to assist with transport costs if they were able to pick up your kids? My children go to school with the neighbour every morning.

If you could afford it, then look out in the local paper for a cheap small car. It need not be fantatstic, providing it has tax and MOT, it could be far cheaper than renting.

Can your 11yr old cycle to school? I used to.

Are you claiming all the benefits you may be entitled to in your current situation? Plenty of money to be claimed out there.

    Not much help I know..
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

Hi - sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope the situation improves for you soon.

Renting a small car typically costs £25-£30 per day, so not very cost effective for school run. A taxi would be cheaper. At our local primary school, I have seen some children arriving by taxi. I think the local authority pays (or contributes).

Agree with N9eav suggestions on previous post. I know it can be hard asking for help from other parents (as it would involve explaining your circumstances), but I think most would people help if they could, especially if it was a stop gap measure.

A small cheap car from the local paper is probably your best answer in the medium term. Usually there are a few Ford Fiestas, Vauxhall Corsas or Nissan Micras for £500 - £750. If you don't know much about buying second hand cars, you should ask someone who does! Repair costs could easily exceed the purchase price on some older cars that have not been well maintained. You want a good car, otherwise it could be more trouble than its worth.
