Windows not opening

Hi, using my lappy yesterday no probs. Today, when I am viewing something in a window and click a link normally the new window opens and I can view....however, the window is opening but sitting on the desktop underneath everything, the only way I can view it, is to close all the other windows..even if I click on the taskbar (the one at the bottom showing me the panes open) I cannot open the window although I can see it.....hope that makes sense. How do I get it to behave how it should? Nothing changed so am assuming it was a Windows Update?

Using Vista HPremium. Thanks. Happy New YEar.

How much would it cost to upgrade to Win7? And would I need to buy it twice, once for lappy, once for pc?

Do you mean your browser windows?

Assuming you're using Internet Explorer -
Close all windows then open Internet Explorer so you have just one window open. If you then click on it's 'Restore down' button - the middle of the three in the very top right of the window, the window will probably shrink down to that mini size you mentioned. Then resize this by dragging the edges to the size you want (I prefer to resize it till it fully fills the screen!). Then click the 'Maximise' button.
All new windows should open either full screen or whatever you resized to.

    Yes I mean browser window.

It opens fine but sits underneath everything. Is visible in the taskbar as a separate tab but I cannot get it to the top unless I minimise all the other windows. I can have 5 or 6 tabs open in IE and they work fine, just when I click a linky in a window (which opens a new window) that is the window which doesn't come to the top and cannot be viewed unless everything else minimised.
