Happy New Year....
House prices double......
THE housing market has defied gloomy predictions to end the year with prices up by nearly six per cent.
And in a clear sign that bricks and mortar remain a sound investment, the price of the average home has more than doubled over the past decade, it was revealed yesterday.
I do so love British media....

House prices rose by 5.9% in 2009 as property market fights back from credit crunch gloom
A steady rise in house prices over the past year has confounded experts who predicted a slump in the market.
Figures released yesterday show prices have increased by around 6 per cent over the past eight months, with the average home now selling for £162,103.
A year ago analysts warned of a crash of around 20 per cent, potentially wiping billions off the equity of homeowners.
Market on the mend: The average cost of a home rose in December to £162,103, marking the eighth consecutive month of price increases
They claimed house price falls of 15.9 per cent in 2008 would 'intensify' against a background of rising unemployment and recession.
Even bosses at the Nationwide building society, who produced the latest data, believed prices would fall by 25 per cent.
Chief economist Martin Gahbauer reckoned the increase 'surprised most commentators'.
'Few could have foreseen this development at the start of the year, when the near-term price trend was still pointing to a repeat of the double digit annual decline experienced in 2008,' he said.
Despite recent market woes, the past decade was the strongest on record for house prices according to Nationwide.
Ten-year figures show values rose by 117 per cent since the end of 1999. Even with inflation taken into account, the average home increased in value by 68 per cent compared with a 14 per cent fall in real terms in the 1990s.

Ignoring the fact that this is from the HPI cheerleaders gazette, this isn't news.
Given that house prices always doubled every 10 years anyway, they haven't done all that well when you consider that we have just had the biggest boom in history."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -
