  • Insurance companies have a duty to keep documents for audit and legal purposes. They must have the proof of NCD from 2 years ago. You are entitled to have a copy of it back, but they may charge you under the Data Protection Act (usually £10) for a "subject acess request".

Having said that, why can't you remember who you insured with 2 years ago? Don't you keep records?

Finally, please learn to spell and type; "wozno" is not a word.

Well presumably you paid someone for the insurance and it wasn't in cash.
It was probably by direct debit or debit.credit card.
In which case there will be evidence on your bank/credit card statements.

If you have thrown those away (in addition to your insurance records) then you will have to pay a fee to get them back.
I recommend asking for the SAR (max £10) which is cheaper than asking for individual statements.

In future, you might like to consider keeping some records as it'll save you time and money.
You should check EACH YEAR that the NCB is correct.
For one thing, if it's too low, you will be paying too much, so it's very ,uch i your interests to do this.

Not all.. Some dont even ask for it... Most companies are happy with the NCD coming in and a record noted on the file - usually on computer history notes of the important info and thats it.

At very least this company should have a record on their computer system!

maybe ecar their maximum will be 5 years and thats what they provide proof for? sometimes on renewal letters it will say 5 years plus. If that is the case they should be able to write you a letter confiming how many years you have there!

is there anyway you can speak to a manager on this as they maybe able to answer your query much better than someone you speak to on the phone.

  • i check with e car and it says 5 years plus thats the max thay do when taking it out if i wont 7 years ncb iv still got to proof i had 5 years before i took 2008 and 2009 insurnce out with tham.
i have got some papers now for aa but there is no dates on it so im going to phone tham and check with tham if i woz with tham in 06 or 07 if i woz with tham in 2006 at least i can prove i had 4 ncb than and add the two years with ecar to tham to get 6 years ncb could just take the 5 years and carry on from there but it takes this years from about £295 to about £450is saying that i still hant look at cash back yet.

Alot of insurers recognise 5 years as the max NCD some will give discount past that but can be minimal it all depends. e.g. 1 insurer had a scale of 1 - 30% 2 - 40% 3 - 50% 4 -60% 5 - 65% but some would extend that to 70% across the amount of years they recognise.
