msn question

I have a long list of msn contacts, and I am trying to avoid some of them seeing when I come online as they immediately pounce on me.

1) Somebody told me that if I select a contact and then select "block" it will show them that I'm off line until I unblock. Is this correct?

2) If the above is correct, now suppose I have blocked someone. Can I unblock them while I am signed in and will this simply show them that I have just come online?

Sorry if these are daft questions, but I'm not high up on techie stuff. :o

    Basically correct.

However, if they sign off and on again with a different screenname andtry to message you, they would see that you are on-line.

In those situations its best to use the "block all not on my allow list" option in the preferences.

Um not exactly 100% chaps as you will have to Click Tools, Options, Privacy and make sure,, Only People on my allow list can see my staus and send me messages is ticked or they will see that you are online but that you are ignoring them. :)

I thought you had to allow someone onto your contact list so surely if they sign into another name you would either know they are the same person or you wouldnt have them on your list? sorry if I am being stupid here. I have one contact who has 3 sign in names - so I just block them all if I dont want to speak.:D

I am fairly new to msn (2 or 3 months) and iwanttosave helped me to get started.

I only recently learned how to block users as occasionally I have to work online, and whilst I may switch back and forth from my work to various forums (including MSE) to relieve the boredom, at these times it would be impossible for me to conduct msn conversations. I have a few contacts that I don't remember who they are, because some of them may be colleagues that have just added me to their list and now I daren't delete them nor block them.

Also, I tend to allow in whoever "knocks" at my msn door. Whether I have multiple sign ins from the same user I wouldn't know, except that I block all those who I am sure are "social" and leave on all those who I think are colleagues.

 Now I find out that I may have offended someone if I have blocked one of their sign ins but not the other! :(
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

    Get the new version.

It has been rebranded and named to Windows Live Messenger.

It actually allows you to talk to people 'while appearing offline' so that no one pounces on you!! It will also allow you to sign in and appear offline, so you will be covered no problem!!
