Rings too CHEAP? and the perils of buying a dress off eBay...

£12 for a ring. Ratners springs to mind for those oldies who can remember them on the high street. You're going to get what you pay for and I doubt the ring would last very long. If you are on a tight budget check out ebay - they have some lovely secondhand rings at a fraction of the original cost. Your ring will be with you for the rest of your life and im sure you'd want one that would last.

There are some beautiful secondhand dresses on ebay. A friends DIL recently sold her wedding dress on ebay for £500.00. It cost £3500 last year! Pity I wasn't a size 10 lol. With anything secondhand, the only downside is they may have had alterations done to them and therefore may not be suitable dependant on alteration done so you would need to check with the seller before considering bidding.

There are also bridal shops on their selling samples at fraction of the cost. I purchased my maid of honours dress for £25 - its a current style - the colour I wanted - and sells in shops for £140. It has the ticket attached and is pristine.

I purchased my dress in a bridal sale half the retail price. My flowergirls dresses were from Debenhams 25% off day; their handbands half price in Next sale, my shoes half price from ebay; VERY MSE of me!

I did consider Landy however, I am large busted and I need additional support and decided against mail order as I was concerned that the Landy dress may not have had the support I needed and would nt have been so cost effective as I had hoped.

At the end of the day it all depends on your budget.

Thank you, I am a bit wary of buying jewellery off eBay though I guess, any pointers on what to look out for? Same for dresses.

How very wise your friend is too...

I am 'planning' on spending up to £1000 on a dress. I know I will need to find the right dress, and properly have it altered substantially too..if not special made.. due to by excessive curviness (big boobs :p) so i am willing to pay a bit more for that so that i know i will feel ...right. i guess. i am hoping my parents will contribute to that though. And perhaps OH's parents to the photography. They will probably be biggest single expenses outside the venue/food etc

My friend is indeed very wise and it's a phrase that helped me to focus on what was important.

It's worth taking a trip and trying on some frocks if you haven't already, I'm a 32DD and the Maggie Sottero dress I had was really really supportive, I was amazed!

We were lucky with photography, OH is a sports photographer by hobby and we have lots of friends who do the same thing so we had four or five photographers who did a fab job for us.

We've been looking at ICE Jewellery on ebay for DF's ring. They have some good reviews. Haven't purchased it yet though as still searching.

There are several bridal shops on ebay - find a dress design that you like and then search it on there.

    Good luck x

I recently purchased my wedding dress off ebay for £99, and it was was from China lol.

But I cannot be more pleased with it. Looks even more fabulous on than it looks in the pic and is exactly the same if not prettier than "my dress" I had seen in a bridal shop in town. Also, I saved £400 through the ebay option :)

Having spoke with the woman who runs the store, she told me that her supplier was based in China, so that is what spurred me to risk getting my dress from ebay. So with the money I saved I put it towards my £180 tiara lol :)

Now i just need to find some cheap shoes. Is it just me or is it really difficult to get "white" wedding shoes anywhere?

We ordered our wedding rings from Goldfinger. Have a look at their website. They come to your home with samples for you to try on and can make them in whatever metal you want it made in. I am paying £186 for a 3mm palladium band with a 1.2mm diamond which is shaped exactly to my engagement ring as it is an unusual shape, and it will be engraved inside as well. Much cheaper than anywhere else I looked, and a really good service although that may depend on your rep.

Don't go too cheap on the rings. At the end of it all the rings and your photos are the only things that will last your lifetime.

Oh I forgot, there is a website that does lovely wedding dresses and they will make them to measure for an extra £20, they reckon their factory is in Portugal - google Evie Bridal and it should bring them up. The most expensive dress is about £500, and there are loads around the £300 mark. And also check out Pre Loved, cheaper and greener too - reuse, it's only been used once after all!
