New scam e-mail

Just had the e-mail below, I know its a scam but beware it could catch some out.

Dear Customer, (note no customer number)

This e-mail has been sent to you by BT Internet to inform you that we were unable to process your most recent payment of bill. This might be due to either of the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information. (eg: billing address, phone)
2. Submitting incorrect information during bill payment process.

Due to this, to ensure that your service is not interrupted, we request you to confirm and update your billing information today

If you have already confirmed your billing information then please disregard this message as we are processing the changes you have made.

Regards,
BT
Billing Department

Thanks for your co-operation.

Must admit to a double take as we have just changed some details on BT. Whilst I've had all the normal scam emails , in their many hues, its the first time I've seen the BT one. Glad I got it yesterday and not this morning.

all emails of this kind of nature must be treated as a scam along with any phone calls of a similar nature, the safest way is to call the company and question direct using the contact numbers you have on paperwork from them (dont use the number given in the email or telephone call) and confirm directly with them

    Just what I would've suggested.

Honestly though, if it isn't emails for viagra or "extentions" it is phishing emails...and they won't stop because it does not cost money to send them = huge profits.
