  • Hi, Tinyteeny, Very many thanks for you reply, and a very Happy New Year to you also.

Also to Adg1, As you say we should have asked more specific questions, but are not knowledgable on the procedures of buying and selling houses, and when we sold our last house we just ended one contract with the EA and went with another. (After the specified amount of time) The reason I am so annoyed with Connells is why do they specify 12 weeks (It might just as well be a year with this snidy little clause on their back page) To my mind it is totally deceitfull in the way they are doing it and I just wish that Martin or someone else could point out to us novices, and all the rest of the people out there unaware of this, is it just Connells or are there any other Estate Agents doing the same.

maryanne - it must be awfully frustrating for you - but you are repeating the same old thing, and the replies you are getting seem to be the same

whether you are a newbie to house buying or not... if you embark on buying-selling THE most expensive thing you will ever buy, it is up to YOU to research the area thoroughly

under the law... ignorance is no defence.... ie - it is your responsibility to read whatever you sign ...

you did not read a contract properly

there were clauses you did not like

    you signed it anyway

    you have paid the price

it is pointless dragging this on and on.... just learn from your mistake and move on.....

Agreed. OP - this advice has been posted many times now and ignored at very turn. If you are going to let this small matter ruin your New Years Eve you really do need to get things into perspective!
  • Hi Maryanne

I will set up a post on another forum (is the vents, praise forum more appropriate?) so we can whinge there.

Gwhiz - as someone else has said the horse has already bolted so we are not ignoring your advice it's just a little too late for us. Being told a few times over we should have read the contract is not much help at this point, however I am sure we have learned our lesson now.

Oh come on! Letting this RUIN New Years Eve.... ridiculous. This is just a classic moaners post - which seem to be getting more common on here.

To be fair to Connells they did incur costs in marketing your property. 12 weeks to sell a property is not very long. Certainly is not unreasonable.

If they had sold the property you would have been singing their praises.
  • Yes I am in the same boat. We are being threatened with legal action as they want payment as we decided not to sell. It is outrageous. Anyone else reading this DO NOT use conning Connells. They also have a very expensive minimum charge for the selling of your property.

If you think that certain terms are "hidden away"/not clear then take the contract along to your local Trading Standards Office and ask for their opinion.

be careful with national branded Estate Agents.

I keep warning in my posts.

Simply avoid them, and use independent ones
My posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:

My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o

If they are that bad why on earth did you go with Connells despite the warning in this thread from 12 months ago?
