Can't explain that one. Possibly late registered pre-facelift? Or did the basic spec version continue with the old headlights?
Are the indicators part of the headlights or located in the bumper?

Thanks for all the replies. It seems to be a known problem, then!

We did go to Halfords - they refused to fit it on the grounds that they didn't have enough staff.

However, my husband has read some threads discovered after a google search, and someone reported that Halfords had refused to fit one on the grounds that it was "too fiddly".

Too damned right it is!! We're going to take it to our treasure (i.e. mechanic) and get him to do it.

Just no driving it until the light's done, which is a bit of a pest.

mine was the last of the mk1.5 as some call it. the headlights have the indicators built into them, where as the earlier mk1 had the indicators in the bumper.

My local car-spares place charged £8 for mine and then fitted it FOC :) My OH watched the chap fit it and said it looked a bit fiddly but he would now know what to do next time.

Do *you* live near me, by any chance :D. Happy to pay someone to do it - and let my husband spectate so he can do it easily next time!

The first time I replaced both bulbs it took me 2 hours! The second time took me five mins. If you start with the drivers side first as this is easier. First take off the weather proof black cover then place the mirror behind the bulb, the most difficult part is removing the clip..but use the mirror to guide you..once you have figured out how the clip works then its pretty easy. Just remove the plug from behind the bulb, fit new bulb and but the clip back on.

The passengers side is more difficult because the battery tray is in the way but use the mirror to guide you.
