Change Surname

Hi Guys.

I am just looking for some advice , i am in the process of changing my surname for 100% legal reason just found my dad after many years etc etc.

Anyway as i said i am changing my surname and was wondering if this will create me a clean new credit profile? , i have a couple of later payments on my current one. I know when you apply for credit is says and previous names but if i only give my new name will i build my credit profile from the start being clean?

Any help or advice on this subject would be great

Many thanks

I shouldn't think so, hence them asking for previous names on any application. If it were that easy I'd have changed my name years ago. Surely a couple of late payments wouldn't be affecting your score that much.

If anyone can inform us that changing your name does give your CF a new lease of life tell us, so I can change mine!!

It was many many years ago but i am sure a guy i used to work with Changed his name told all the firms like Gas , Electricity , Mobile Phone that he was in good credit with that he changed his name and then after a few months applied for credit but did not tick the box that said if he had been know by any other names and he said it was like having a new credit file and could apply for anything he wanted and as far as i know he kept it clean.

Any further info from anyone would be great

Yes of course, if you do not declare you had another name you might get away with it. On the other hand, you might get prosecuted for making a fraudulent application if you get caught.

Thats really my question if you do not declare it does a new credit profile just get created with your new details? , ok it might be a bit blank

I am not asking all this for ilegal reasons i am just interrested and i am changing my surname for 100% legal reasons

Thanks for all the replies and for any further info :-)

If the credit card form asks you to give any previous name and you fail to do so it is possible that you would be charged with "attempting to obtain a pecuniary advantage by deception".

    I rest my case.
    ..
  • i understand the all the things that could \ could not happen but all i am asking is IF whan i change my name and IF and i do mean IF ever apply for anything and only state my new name will a new credit profile based on my new name be created?

Is'nt this a bit like when you get married?

If the woman takes the mans surname does'nt it show on your credit file as , previously named as smith or something.

Im sure you will have the same address and postcode anyway so if you did apply for credit without disclosing your old name you would get declined.
  • but thats my point, if you dont tell them your old name how do they know you have changed your name?
