Virgin credit card 0% purchase - being charged interest!

I hold a virgin credit card and from time to time they offer some good deals - recently I was offered 0 % for 9 months on all purchases over 250 pounds. So I decided to take up this offer whilst purchasing two flights from Alitalia which totalled 376 pounds. However, upon checking my statement it seems that Virgin are charging me interest on this purchase. For some reason (?) Alitalia had split the single purchase total of 376 pounds in half and charged my credit card twice (2* 188), therefore I do not automatically qualify for the 0 % purchase offer. I have phoned Virgin CC and they tell me that there is nothing they can do as the transaction(s) did not qualify for the deal and it's the fault of Alitalia.

Surely Virgin CC should hold some responsibility here? Any advice?

Sounds like it went through as two seperate purchases - which is down to Alitalia. All Virgin did was process the request for payment.
